As part of the
celebration at Skeheenarinky National School in June 2008,
the Parents' Council are setting up a museum for the
weekend. It is tentatively planned to re-create a
school room as it would have been in the past. We are calling for
books, desks, maps, clocks, etc., and any other artifacts from the
school (or from other schools) to be placed, on loan, in the museum
for the weekend of the commemoration. All items will be
acknowledged and returned.

In particular we would like items connected to the school
such as old desks, blackboard, clock, school-books, wall
maps, old school copies, photographs, old pens and
nibs and inkwells etc.
Contact has already been made with several family members of
past teachers. Noel Kearney (grandson of Master Kearney
who taught at the school from 1892 to 1930s) and his wife
Patsy attended a meeting at the school recently. Noel
has offered the school bell used by Master Kearney to the
museum for the weekend.
We also have one of the original benches from the 1858
school on loan from Dan and Mary Fox. Come and sit on
it at the museum. Perhaps this is the seat your
grandfather or grandmother sat on.
So have a look in your attic or your shed and see what
treasures you can offer on loan for the anniversary weekend
in June 2008. Contact ed_oriordan@
