Skeheenarinky GAA Report

South Championship U21 semi-final

Skeheenarinky 4-13
Anner Gaels 2-9

Skeheen’ under 21s had a very convincing win over Anner Gaels( A Fethard and St. Pats combination team) on a very pleasant winters afternoon last Sunday in Cahir. Fionnan was first on the board for Skeheen with two pointed frees and a point from play, but a goal from Anner gaels and two further frees had them ahead early on and looking like a threat. However Skeheen found their stride and a Neil barrett point followed by a Fionnan goal from a sideline cut saw Skeheen take charge. Fionnan was to score another goal later in the first half yet again from a sideline cut, but With Noel Vaughan loitering with intent for both goals he might claim last touch for each. In the absence of the big screen replay however we give the benefit of the doubt to Fionnan, and with Noel getting two undisputed goals of his own we deem this a fair call! Skeheen’ were well in control at the break going in 3-9 to 1-4 to the good.

Skeheen’ probably eased off somewhat for the second half scoring 1-4 to Anner Gaels 1-5 but we always looked in control. Our full forward line of Noel, Tommy and Fionnan linked up superbly throughout the match and took some lovely scores while our defence stood up well when Gaels came in search of goals to bring them back into the game. We now look forward to next weekend and another South final.
