On Friday, 20 June, 2008, Hard Days and Happy Days - A History of Skeheenarinky National School will be launched
by former Taoiseach Dr. Garret FitzGerald at Skeheenarinky National School. The book,
which will be published by the National School Anniversary
Committee, is currently being written by Ed O'Riordan and Karol DeFalco. All funds from the book will go to the Parents' Council.
The evening begins at the National School, Skeheenarinky
at 7.30 p.m. with the opening of the weekend museum and
a cheese and wine reception. Master of Ceremonies for the evening
will be our own Sean Landers who is also Chairman of the
National School 150th Anniversary Committee.
Remember, the museum is for one weekend only
so we would advise you to avail of this opportunity of
visiting the school attended by your ancestor. Throughout the evening, traditional
musicians will play
for your entertainment and to commemorate the people
of the area who have gone before us and who would have
played and danced to similar music.
Books will then be on sale for a few hours and books that
have been pre-purchased
can be collected on that evening (unless postage has been arranged). Ed and Karol will be on hand to sign
your copy if you should so wish.
Cover of
book is shown below. It is a section of a photograph
which is reproduced in full inside the book. Picture
is of the girls of Skeheenarinky School 100 hundred years
ago.
